What should I do after reporting a burglary to Police?

There are four steps you can take if you have been burgled and reported it to Police.

  1. Try not to touch any potential evidence, for example, footprints, DNA or fingerprints (these might be on clean, hard and smooth surfaces the person has touched or near entry or exit points).
  2. Secure the premises. Tell anyone carrying out repairs to be careful when working around potential fingerprints.
  3. Clean up dangerous items, like broken glass, and store these in a container for potential evidence collection.
  4. Make a list of missing items and include make, model, serial number and value if possible. Give this list to Police or update your report online. If you identify more missing items, you can add to this online list.
