Use your brain, tracks are for trains
Use your brain, tracks are for trains
Rail Safety Week, 13-19 August 2012, was launched today at the Wellington Railway Station.
With an increase in the number of deaths around train tracks, KiwiRail, the Chris Cairns Foundation and New Zealand Police are helping to educate people about being safe around railways. Remember, "Use your brain, tracks are for trains".
Train Facts:
- Modern trains are quiet. Stay alert. Remove your headphones and turn off mobile devices.
- Trains have right off way. You could die or be fined for failing to give way to trains.
- Trains are frequent. Expect a train at any time. Always check the track is clear in both directions before crossing.
- Trains are heavy, fast and can't stop quickly. You are unlikely to survive a collison. Always wait for a train to pass, no matter how far away it is.
- Railway tracks and bridges are private property. Anyone walking along or crossing tracks, not at crossings, is committing an offence under the law and can be prosecuted.
- Trespassing is the leading cause of deaths on the railway.
