Police have agreed to recommence salary payments of Alec Waugh on a "without prejudice" basis.
Police General Manager of Human Resources, Mr Wayne Annan, said a constructive meeting this morning with Mr Waugh and his legal representative, Dr Bob Moodie, covered issues relating to Friday’s Employment Court judgement.
"Police explained that we still need time to analyse the judgment and to decide within the 28 day period allowable as to whether or not we might appeal it.
"However, given the judgment’s declaration that Mr Waugh remains a member of New Zealand Police there is a need to honour the ruling from a going forward point of view.
"This means we have agreed to commence paying Mr Waugh a Superintendent’s salary with effect from last Friday.
"Police will now await the analysis of the Employment Court judgment from our legal team before the Commissioner takes a more substantive decision on whether to contest the court’s rulings or to explore other options including the potential of finding a position for Mr Waugh," said Mr Annan.
Mr Waugh will now take annual leave and the parties will meet again in January.
