Dismissal of Bain appeal brings closure

1 min read

Police are pleased with the Court of Appeal’s decision to dismiss the appeal against the conviction of David Bain said Detective Superintendent Malcolm Burgess.

"We have always had confidence in the merits of this case," said Mr Burgess.
"This decision by the Court of Appeal vindicates that confidence and we are particularly pleased for the wider Bain family."

"The continued debate around this case has not been helpful to the relatives of David Bain. This decision will help bring about some closure for the family and all those involved in this tragic event."

Mr Burgess said this decision is also an endorsement of the professionalism of past and present staff in the Dunedin Criminal Investigation Branch.
