Murder charges following Port Waikato brawl

Police have now advised what charges the man who was arrested last night will face, in relation to the brawl at Port Waikato.

The 38-year-old man will appear in the Manukau District Court tomorrow. He is charged with two counts of murder and two of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

The two murder charges relate to the deceased, Hiko Clark, aged 21, and Tahiwi Phillip Herangi, aged 17. Post mortem examinations were carried out today, it appears that each man died as a result of a single stab wound.

The two charges of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm relate to the two young men hospitalised with stab wounds. They were aged 16 and 19 years old.

Police staff continued inquiries with residents and holidaymakers at Port Waikato today. Police and ESR staff also continued with the scene examination, which is expected to take several more days.
