Man arrested in clan lab operation at Waikanae Beach

1 min read

A 31-year-old man is appearing in the Lower Hutt District Court this morning following the discovery of a clan lab operating in a Waikanae Beach, Kapiti Coast, property.

The man is charged with manufacturing methamphetamine, attempting to manufacture methamphetamine, possession of precursor substances for the manufacture of methamphetamine and possession of precursor equipment for the manufacture of methamphetamine.

Detective Ross McKay, Kapiti CIB, says police from Kapiti and Lower Hutt CIBs and the armed offenders squad went to the house, on the corner of Huiawa and Heperi Streets, Waikanae Beach, about 9pm.

Fire and ambulance were also in attendance as a safety precaution.

“We found a clan lab operating in the kitchen,” Detective McKay says. “One person was arrested at the scene.”

Five people from neighbouring properties were evacuated and the house was guarded overnight.

A specialist clan lab team and ESR staff from Auckland will continue a thorough scene examination this morning.

Inquiries are continuing.
