Armed robbers strike three times

1 min read

Auckland City Police are investigating three aggravated robberies of bars in the district over the weekend, which netted the offenders about $16,000 in total.

The three pubs –

Mad Dogs and Englishmen on Manukau Rd, One Tree Hill;
Harlequins Bar and Function Centre on Great North Rd, Pt Chevalier;
The Horse and Trap on Enfield St, Mt Eden;

– were robbed at 9.40pm, 10.15pm and 10.45pm respectively on Sunday, May 2.

Witnesses and victims have described the offenders as two male Maori or Polynesians in their late teens or early 20s. Both were wearing dark clothing, red bandannas and dark gloves and both were described as slim and of medium height.

"One offender was armed with what’s been described to us as a pistol, while the other was carrying a steel rod or baton of some sort," Detective Senior Sergeant Mark Benefield of the Auckland City Crime Squad said.

"Luckily no-one was injured during the three robberies, but obviously some people are a little shaken up and shocked by last night’s events.

"It’s likely that all three robberies were carried out by the same offenders and we’d like to hear from anyone who has any information about who they might be. Witnesses say they left the first two of the scenes – One Tree Hill and Pt Chevalier – in a sliver or grey sporty looking vehicle with a spoiler on the boot."

Mr Benefield urged people with information about the offenders or any suspicious behaviour around the venues to contact Auckland Central Crime Squad, ph 302 6400.
