Stanmore Road Homicide progresses

1 min read

The inquiry is progressing into the death of a man on Stanmore Road in the early hours of yesterday morning says Inquiry head, Detective Senior Sergeant Dave Long.

The dead man is named as Ricky Burnard, aged 42 of Christchurch, (subject to court suppression orders).

The post mortem was completed this morning and the Coroner will establish cause of death.

"However I can say," say Detective Senior Sergeant Long, "that the victim's injuries are consistent with having been shot."

There has been very good information from the public and witnesses but police would like anyone who saw two or more vehicles travelling from east Christchurch to the Stanmore Road scene before 5am yesterday morning, in manner that caught their attention, to contact them.

"There would not be many vehicles on the road at that time," says Dave Long. "We believe that there were at least two vehicles travelling together, maybe erratically but certainly in a manner that made them obvious."

The cordons around the scene on Stanmore Road are expected to be lifted soon DSS Long says.

The outer cordon should be lifted later today, reducing to Stanmore Road between Armagh and Haast Streets.

Police extend their thanks to the public and local residents especially for their tolerance.
