1 min read

A large number of people were arrested over the weekend for breaching the city's liquor bans. The operation on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights saw 49 people charged with breaching the city liquor bans, many of whom had not been in trouble before.

"The warning time is over," says Sergeant Phil Dean. "We will not tolerate people breaking the law. You cannot bring liquor to town or drink it in a public place."

Sergeant Dean says he is disappointed the public is still refusing to understand that alcohol causes serious problems with violence, sexual abuse and disorder.

Those arrested were mainly aged between 18- 26 years and was fairly evenly males and females.

Operation Pulse covered three areas; the inner city, Hagley environs and South Colombo Street and will continue for five weeks.
