Police will not comment as to the wrappings or content of the parcel left at Christchurch Women's Hospital today.
Senior Sergeant Gordon Spite says that inquiries are continuing to find out how it came to be left there.
"It was wrapped in such a way as to cause concern for people in the ward," he says. 'Inquiries are continuing however at this stage I do not think it was a hoax."
The parcel is now at Christchurch Central Police Station for further examination.
