The name of the man who died on Oliviers Road early last night is Andre James DELAMARE, aged 41.
A 39 year old man is to appear in the Christchurch District Court today charged with assault and cultivation of cannabis. Detective Senior Sergeant David Harvey says further charges are being considered.
Oliviers Road is still cordoned off and police are conducting area inquiries.
"Anyone who was in that area around 6.30pm last evening and has any information or saw any altercation, should contact us," asks Mr Harvey.
At about 6.40pm yesterday Police were in Oliviers Road Christchurch
attending an incident when they found a male lying on the side of the road with two people standing with him.
An officer called for an Ambulance and then rendered immediate medical assistance after he found that the victim had received a number of stab wounds. The victim died in the Ambulance on the way to the hospital.
Police are speaking to a number of people that have information about the death.
Anyone who has information to provide is asked to contact the Christchurch Central Police Station and ask to speak to the Central City Investigation Unit.
