Sightings sought for indecent assault in Whitby

1 min read

Porirua CIB is looking for a youth who indecently assaulted a 12-year-old schoolboy on a Whitby walkway.

Detective Dave Jones says the incident happened about 4.30pm last Saturday, 20 August, as the 12-year-old was on a walkway leading from the southern end of Leeward Drive to Spinnaker Drive.

"The victim was stopped and spoken to by a teenage youth who had been riding a bicycle," says Detective Jones. "The youth then indecently assaulted the younger boy."

He believes the assault was an isolated incident and that the victim, while upset, was not otherwise harmed and is coping well.

Police would like to find the offender who is described as a 14 - 16-year old caucasian, of medium build and with medium length brown hair. At the time he was wearing a grey t shirt, black trackpants, black sports shoes and a cycle helmet with a sun peak on it. He was riding a blue mountain bike with yellow writing on it. The bike also had a black seat with a pouch attached to it.

"Given the detailed description we are hopeful that someone will recognise the youth and tell us who he is," Detective Jones says.
