Ohakune road crash victim is named

A 19-year-old man killed in a road crash in Ohakune early this morning has been named as Ezra Fluerty.

The crash happened around 3:10am when a Mazda car travelling south on Goldfinch Street failed to take a slight bend and impacted with a post and a raised stone edged garden.

Ezra Fleurty died at the scene. A 20-year-old male passenger remains in a critical condition in hospital and a 19-year-old-male passenger is in a stable condition.

The 18-year-old driver suffered minor injuries. He has been charged with driving with excess alcohol and possession of cannabis and has been bailed to appear at Ohakune Court on Friday (25 September). More charges will follow once the crash investigation is complete.

All of the people in the car are local to Ohakune.
