A flasher's behaviour that terrified a female bus passenger appears to have played a major part in a bus colliding with a Police Station in North Hamilton this morning.
Police at the North Hamilton Community Policing Centre didn't have to wait for a call to 111 to know something was amiss when the Orbiter bus struck the arch above their station's entranceway shortly before 9am.
Acting Sergeant Craig Berquist said the incident started when a male passenger allegedly exposed himself to a fellow passenger causing her to scream.
The woman has gone to the front of the bus and informed the driver who immediately phoned his company office and was to take the bus to the nearest Police Station, in this case located at the Flagstaff shops on River Rd.
"With the woman screaming the bus driver stopped his bus in the station car park and applied the handbrake before he and the woman got out.
"Believing the bus to be in neutral the driver activated the emergency door lock which released the park brake. Unfortunately the bus was still in gear and it rolled forward into the station's entranceway cracking its windscreen and causing minor damage to the building."
No-one was injured in the incident and the 14-year-old boy was arrested and charged with carrying out an indecent act.
