Police investigate aggravated robbery

1 min read

Police investigating an aggravated robbery at a man's Palmerston North home believe the victim was specifically targeted.

Residents of Waldegrave Street, Palmerston North, contacted police around 2.25am reporting the sounds of breaking glass and voices.

On attendance police found that a 63-year-old man had been attacked by two or three men and a quantity of cash had been stolen.

The victim was taken to hospital with light to moderate injuries consistent with a beating and is still being assessed by medical staff.

At this stage it is not known the quantity of cash stolen or whether any weapon was used in the attack. It is hoped that Police will be able glean this information and further descriptions of the attackers once they are able to talk to the victim further.

Detective Sergeant Gary Miligan said: "The information we have so far leads us to believe that this probably wasn't a random incident and that this man was specifically targeted for some reason. As we are still examining the scene and have not had a chance to speak to the victim in any detail there is little more I am able to say about the incident at this stage."

In the meantime Police would like to hear from anyone who knows anything about this incident or who might be behind it. Witnesses are urged to contact the Police direct at Palmerston North Police Station on 06 351 3600 or on the Crime Line 0800 808585. Alternatively information can be provided via Crimestoppers on 0800 55111.
