Police investigating a fatal road crash in Pahiatua just before Christmas are issuing an identikit image of a person of interest in the inquiry.

The crash happened around 7.30pm on Wednesday, 23 December on SH2, south of Pahiatua township. The car that crashed killing a 67-year-old woman contained family members travelling to Hawkes Bay for a Christmas family reunion.

Enquiries have established that just prior to the crash a dark blue, four-door sedan was parked on the side of the road, facing north towards the Pahiatua township. It was then seen to complete a U-turn and travel towards Pahiatua along SH2.

Witnesses have described the driver as a European woman aged 30 to 40 and have assisted Police in producing an identikit picture of her. It is possible there were two other people in the car with her, one in the front passenger seat and one in the rear.

Police are urging this woman, or anyone who knows the identity of this woman to contact the Pahiatua Police on 06 376 0130 to assist them with their investigation.

Information can also be provided anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
