Body found at Redcliffs beach

Police are seeking to identify an elderly woman whose body was found amongst the rocks at Redcliffs this morning.

About 11.15am the woman's body was found just by Beachville Road car park. She is possibly in her seventies, 1.77 tall (5'10"), of slim build, with shortish grey hair and blue eyes. She has a silver ring on her ring finger.
Detective Senior Sergeant John Rae says she was dressed in night attire.

A post mortem will take place tomorrow morning and until the result f that are known police are unable to comment further but at this time her death is not thought to be suspicious.

Police would like to identify the woman and ask neighbours and families to check up on people close to them who fit that description. Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Mike Ford at Lyttelton police phone 378 0204.
