Investigators into Te Kauwhata crash appeal for witnesses from scene to come forward

1 min read

The independent investigator tasked with overseeing Police investigations into the death of a man killed when his motorbike collided with a turning patrol car said the inquiry team needed to speak to witnesses from the scene.

Auckland based Detective Inspector Lance Burdett said the various enquiry teams had spoken to a raft of people who had seen vehicles involved in the crash prior to the incident but not those present at the time.

"For instance a variety of media showed a photo, possibly taken from a cell-phone that appears to be shot shortly after the crash.

"In the original picture the front of a red or maroon vehicle, possibly a people mover or a van, can be seen in the right side of the image, we would like to speak to the person who took this photo and the occupants of that vehicle."

Mr Burdett said other media coverage indicated other people and vehicles were present at the scene and information these people have could prove crucial to the investigations.

"Its important that a thorough and transparent investigation as possible is carried out. This is not just for the reassurance of Paul Brown's family but for the wider public and our own staff as well."

Anyone who was at the scene of the crash who has not already spoken to Police is asked to contact Mr Burdett via the Hamilton Central Police station on 07 8586200.
