Heirloom jewellery recovered

1 min read

Wellington Police are pleased to have returned valuable jewellery stolen in a burglary at the British High Commissioner's residence in Karori last month.

Detective Corey Watts and Constable Olivia Fry said the High Commissioner's family was thrilled to get the family heirlooms back, especially the mid 19th Century diamond and gold tiara valued at tens of thousands of dollars.

Some of the jewellery was handed into the Lower Hutt police station early last Thursday morning by a person who has assisted police with the investigation into the burglary.

A later search of an inner Wellington hotel resulted in the tiara being recovered.

A 31-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with the burglary. He reappears in court on Wednesday.
