Bus Driver to Appear in Court

1 min read

A 46 year old male bus driver will appear in the North Shore District Court this Friday, on five charges of careless driving causing injury.

North Shore Police say the charges result from an investigation into the recent incident at Rangitoto College, in which a school bus ran over five female students, while they were sitting on the footpath.

The incident happened at about 11.30am on Tuesday 27 June 2006, when a bus loaded with College students, accelerated as it was making a departure manoeuvre.

The bus then mounted the footpath seriously injuring the five girls before finally coming to rest a short distance away.

Several ambulances took the injured students to Starship Hospital. Four have since been discharged, and they are now recovering at home.

One of the teenage girls is still in hospital with serious injuries.

Her condition is described as stable.

The bus driver has also been seriously affected by the incident.
