Concerned with care and protection issues relating to a young child, Hamilton Police are appealing for a mother to contact them to ensure the girl's safety.
City Area Commander, Inspector Rob Lindsay, said 18-month-old Chevelle Gage was with her father at the Hamilton Lake Domain yesterday afternoon when the girl's mother came and took the child.
"Chevelle's parents are estranged and her father had temporary custody of her in accordance with Child Youth and Family guidelines.
"We believe Chevelle's mother, 29-year-old Latisha WAA, is still in the Hamilton area but are aware she has contacts in the Bay of Plenty, Horowhenua and Wellington areas. We are urging Ms WAA to make with contact us so we can ensure the child is safe and well."
A disqualified driver, WAA is believed to be travelling in a red 1998 Ford Falcon saloon, registration number ENN580.
"By taking her daughter WAA is in breach of existing bail conditions so we're asking her to come forward before anything untoward happens to herself or to her baby," said Mr Lindsay.
WAA is described as a female Maori of medium build about 176cm tall. Anyone who recognises her or sees her vehicle is asked to phone 111 immediately.
