1 min read

Wellington Police are investigating a fatal hit and run traffic crash in the central city which has claimed the life of a young female pedestrian.

Amy Margaret Edward-Mintorn, aged 23, was crossing Cambridge Terrace, near College Street, in the central city about 1.40am when she was struck by what is believed to be a white Subaru WRX two-door coupe.

A second vehicle, travelling close behind the Subaru, also hit Ms Edward-Mintorn.

She was admitted to Wellington Hospital with multiple injuries but died at 5.50am today.

Detective Senior Sergeant Shane Cotter, Wellington CIB, said both vehicles initially stopped, but the Subaru WRX left soon after the crash and before police arrived at the scene.

Police are urgently seeking the occupants of the white Subaru, or any other people who witnessed the crash, or who have information which might help identify those involved, to contact police.

"This is a very serious matter. A young woman's life has ended tragically short," Detective Senior Sergeant Cotter said.

Anyone who can help with information is asked to contact Wellington Police Duty CIB on 04 381 2000.
