1 min read

An internal investigation is underway by Police after an alleged incident in the Whakatane police cells last week.

Four local police officers have been stood down after allegations that a prisoner was subjected to undue force while being held by Whakatane Police.

Superintendent Stuart Wildon, the National Manager of Professional Standards, said a team of four investigators would carry out the investigation.

Superintendent Wildon said the Bay of Plenty District Commander, Superintendent Gary Smith and Whakatane Area Commander Inspector Pat Tasker would ensure sufficient rostered staff to maintain service levels for the area.

The Police Complaints Authority has been advised.
