Police Locate Vehicle Linked to Homicide

2 min read

North Shore Police have announced a major development in their homicide enquiries.

The Officer heading the investigation Detective Inspector Steve WOOD, says the 1996 Green Rover Hatchback, Registration Number AKM 932, which has been subject of an Auckland wide search over the past 24 hours, has been located on the North Shore.

"Police found the vehicle this morning in Santiago Crescent in the suburb of Meadowood, after information was conveyed from a member of the public. A specialist forensic squad is now carrying out a full examination of the late model car," he said

"This development is vital in our continuing investigation into who was responsible for the death of the 77 year old woman, whose body was discovered in her Eskdale home early yesterday afternoon."

Detective Inspector Steve WOOD says the victim is a widow who lived alone at her Eskdale Road address, and from what police can establish so far, did not have a large group of friends or associates. At this time it appears that there are no family members that live in New Zealand.

"Police are now seeking all available information on her recent movements and activities, from neighbours and others who may also know her. It appears she has kept very much to herself."

"A post mortem examination is expected to be carried out on the body of the deceased later today to determine the exact cause of death," he said.

"The victim's name is unlikely to be released by Police until tomorrow as the whereabouts of her few known relatives is yet to be fully determined," said Mr Wood.

"The body of the 77 year old woman was discovered inside the house by friends shortly before police went to the address in Eskdale Road Birkdale, at 1.00pm yesterday, Sunday 14 January 2007."

"A sizeable team of 20 x investigators are working on the case. Police wish to thank the public for their valuable assistance to helping us locate the vehicle. There is still a long way to go in this investigation," Inspector WOOD said.
