The third and final Rugby World Cup 2011 match played at Trafalgar Park in Nelson went off without a hitch.

Police Operation Commander Inspector Steve Caldwell commended the rugby fans on their excellent behaviour.

"The people of the top of the South have been fantastic hosts. All of the feedback I have had is that our visitors have had a very enjoyable time here."

Inspector Caldwell said the months of planning that had gone into the policing operation had ensured the games were incident-free.

"My staff have conducted themselves in a very professional and friendly manner. The public have appreciated that. A number of our international visitors have commented on how friendly and helpful the police have been. It's a real credit and I can't thank them enough."

Inspector Caldwell urged rugby fans leaving the match to take care on the drive home.
