Attempted Abduction

There was an attempted abduction of an 8 year old girl as she walked to school this mrning.

At about 8.30am on Friday 4 May 2005 an 8 year old girl was walking along Hay Street, Linwood.

Near the corner of Hay Street and Linwood Avenue a male has approached the girl and put his hand inside her shirt and struck her in the back. When the girl has turned to face the male he has grabbed her by the forearms holding her for some time. The girl called out to member of the public who intervened and the male has run off down Linwood Avenue towards Eastgate shopping centre.

The male is described as follows;

Male Caucasian

25-30 years

Approximately 5ft 4

Medium build

Unshaven

Wearing the following;

Black beanie with white trim

Dark coloured long sleeved top

Long dark coloured trousers

There was another member of the public who was in the vicinity at the time and may possibly have seen the girl and the male together in Hay Street. This member of the public is described as an Asian female who was talking on a mobile phone as she walked along the footpath. Police also wish to identify this person and speak with them.

Police are appealing for any members of the public who may have seen a male who matches this description in the vicinity of, McGregors Road, Hay Street and Linwood Avenue between 8-9am on Friday 4 May 2007, or can identify this person. The little girl was not injured.

"She called out for help and did all the right things," says Detective Nicola REEVES. "She did a really good job, as did the member of the public who helped her."
