Auckland Police will be speaking to one, if not two, taxi drivers this afternoon about their involvement in assaults on two fare-skipping passengers in Avondale last night.
Three young men in their 20s caught a taxi to Racecourse Parade in Avondale at about 9pm last night but tried to run off without paying the driver.
One of the men was then stabbed in the lower back and chest by the driver at the scene, while his two companions were located by two taxi drivers shortly after near a Shell Service Station on Ash St. One of the men was hit by a taxi and received a broken leg and possible internal injuries.
A third young man was arrested by Police for Obtaining by Deception and will appear in the Auckland District Court next Monday.
Neither of the two injured men has made a complaint to Police about the attacks on them, but Police have located some independent witnesses to the incidents.
It's understood the original taxi fare for the three men was less than $10.
