Three men charged following robbery attempt in Manners Mall

1 min read

On Monday 28 May at around 11.30pm, three men aged between 17 and 22-years-old set upon and attempted to rob an out-of-town business man outside Burger King, Manners Mall.

During the attack the victim was kicked repeatedly in the head and suffered lacerations and bruising.

Despite the attack, the offenders didn't manage to obtain the victim's wallet.

Detective Senior Sergeant Paul Borrell of Wellington Police says that even though no property was gained during the attack, the charge used against the three men carries the same maximum penalty as for aggravated robbery.

"Wellington Police are committed to deterring unprovoked inner city street violence and intimidation on members of the public and anyone who is apprehended behaving in this way can expect to be dealt with similarly."

All three men have been charged with assault with intent to rob and appeared in the Wellington District Court today.

Police are appealing to any members of the public who may have witnessed the incident to contact Wellington Police duty-shift CIB staff on Tel: 381 2000.
