Elderly woman dead in crash

Police are calling for witnesses to a crash last Friday afternoon 22 June which left a 91 year old woman dead.

Just before 2pm on Friday a Suzuki motor car was travelling west along Brougham Street when the driver lost control and veered across both westbound lanes, mounted the raised medium strip and collided head on with a tree.

There were two occupants in the vehicle, the driver, a 85 year old male and the 91 year old female who was the front seat passenger.

Both occupants were taken to hospital by Ambulance but a short time after arriving at hospital the woman died. The cause of her death is yet to be established.

The driver is in a stable condition in hospital. He is not yet been spoken to by Police and the reason for his loss of control of the vehicle has not yet been established.

Police are asking for anyone who witnessed the crash to please make contact with Sergeant Stephen Jones at the Sydenham Police Station, phone 3632518.
