Panmure Incident Not A Hit N Run Say Police

The Auckland Serious Crash Unit is appealing for witnesses after a pedestrian was seriously injured while crossing the road in the suburb of Panmure this morning.

Police say that about 10.15am this morning, Thursday 12 July 2007, an elderly pedestrian was hit by a vehicle that was travelling in the south bound lane in Jellicoe Road, Panmure.

The pedestrian was taken to hospital by ambulance.

The 60 year old Asian female has since died in Auckland Hospital from injuries received in the accident. The deceased victim's Next of Kin are yet to be notified of the tragedy.

A post mortem examination will be held tomorrow.

The driver of a truck carrying a mini skip who witnessed the incident has tonight been located.

Police say they are still seeking the driver of a second vehicle, a NISSAN SUV.

This vehicle was travelling alongside the truck in another lane in Jellicoe Road.

Police urge the driver of this vehicle to contact them as soon as possible.

Early enquiries indicate that the deceased victim has run across the road in front of the SUV.

The driver of SUV vehicle has stopped and given their particulars to a passer by, who witnessed the incident.

Police are wanting this witness to contact them, so as the SUV's driver's identity can be fully determined.

Both the SUV driver and the witness have immediately departed the scene.

Police say there were a number of persons in the vicinity at the time and anyone with information is

asked to contact Sergeant Matthew FORD of Auckland Serious Crash Unit on 09 302 6400.

The Auckland Serious Crash Unit investigation into this incident is continuing.
