Let expert do his work

1 min read

Police Commissioner Howard Broad says that independent expert advice and guidance have been sought over the issue of police recruitment standards and that work needs to be completed without further allegations being made.

Mr Broad said that when the issue first surfaced several weeks ago the Minister of Police commissioned Mr Dave George of Cerno to produce the independent report.

"Police are committed to supplying Mr George with all the information available. It would be undermining of his work for me to start making pronouncements about the likely outcome at this point.

"There is internal debate about what weight can be placed on various testing methods and there are certainly differing opinions about the standard of recruits and training practices. There have been several attempts to interpret the data that is held about police recruit performance.

"What the Dave George work will do is to illuminate the facts and set aside conjecture, and tell us what validity we can place on the interpretation we have concerning recruit performance.

"Meantime, we need to let Mr George complete his work before jumping to any further conclusions," said Mr Broad.
