Woman Dies In Fatal Car Crash Near Kumeu

The Serious Crash Unit is examining the scene of a fatal car crash near Kumeu in which a 38 year old female has died. The incident happened at about 8.55am this morning Friday 10 August 2007, when two vehicles were involved in a head on collision in Cottle Road, Taupaki.

The female driver of a Nissan sedan died at the scene. Her two children, a boy aged nine, and a girl aged 10 years are both in Starship Hospital with moderate injuries.

Police say the deceased mother of two has been formally identified as:

BLAKEBOROUGH/Melanie Anne

DOB - 18/06/1969 - Age 38 years

Resident of Massey, West Auckland

The female driver of a second vehicle, an Isuzu 4WD, is in Waitakere hospital with moderate injuries. Her three children a boy aged nine, and two girls aged seven and 10 years, are also at the hospital with moderate injuries. The status and condition of all the injured is considered to be non life threatening.

Police say three fire appliances, four ambulances, and members of the rural community were quickly on the scene to administer medical and other assistance to all the injured. Enquiries by the Serious Crash Unit are continuing.
