PCA Pursuits Review Provides Valuable Perspective

1 min read

Deputy Commissioner Operations, Rob Pope says the PCA's review of all fatal and serious injury police pursuits since March 2004 will provide a valuable, independent, perspective.

"The very nature of police pursuits means there will always be a high level of public interest in the policies and procedures police must follow.

"The PCA's review of these policies will help inform our own, ongoing, assessment around the adequacy of the guidance we provide to staff. We welcome any input which helps ensure our policies and practice continue to be developed to enhance public and officer safety," Mr Pope says.

NZ Police is currently conducting its own review to determine the effectiveness of training, policy and procedure changes implemented in 2004, and to investigate further potential to improve the safety and conduct of pursuits.

The police review is due to report back to the Commissioner in mid-September.
