Police make second arrest in Eastern Waikato sword attack

Eastern Waikato Police investigating an attack on a man at his home west of Thames have recovered a weapon believed used in Monday night's attack.

Thames Sub-Area Manager, Senior Sergeant Graham Shields, said investigators had also identified and located a second offender linked to the aggravated assault.

"This 21-year-old man is the brother of a 16-year-old youth arrested shortly after the attack which happened at a Matatoki address about 5pm.

"A Samurai sword believed used in the attack has also been recovered while the 23-year-old victim who suffered a broken jaw and facial lacerations has been discharged from Waikato Hospital and is recuperating from his injuries at his home."

Mr Shields said the second offender will be appearing in the Hamilton District Court tomorrow on causing injury charges.
