House fire victim confirmed to be a man

An investigation is continuing this morning into the cause of a house fire in Tokoroa which has left one person dead and another critically injured.

The fire in Dalmeny Street, occurred at approximately 6.45 last night (Tuesday, 9 April).

Police can now confirm that the body inside the house is that of a man who is believed to be a local man in his 50s. His body is expected to be removed later today and will be subject to a post mortem tomorrow. No further details about the man will be issued until his identity has been confirmed. A second man aged 47 is currently in Waikato Hospital.

A scene examination is being carried out today and with the assistance of ESR. Until that examination is complete it is not possible to confirm whether or not the fire was suspicious.
