Hamilton shooting release II

Establishing what they can confirm happened as opposed to what they think happened is one of the key objectives for a team of detectives investigating the shooting of a Waikato man overnight.

Detective Sergeant Graham Pitkethley of the Waikato CIB said a scene examination currently underway at a Hamilton address is likely to take most of today and possibly continue into tomorrow.

"What we can confirm at this stage is that ambulance and Police staff were called to a Churchill Ave address just before 8pm last night and arrived to find a 34-year-old man injured who was established to have been shot.

"Taken to Waikato Hospital suffering from serious though non-life-threatening injuries, the man was admitted to a ward and is likely to undergo surgery later today."

Though a vehicle linked to man wanted on arrest warrants from offending in the King Country last week was one of a number at the address Mr Pitkethley said it was premature to suggest this discovery implicated anyone as the alleged shooter.

Anyone with any information on last night's incident is asked to contact Hamilton Police on 07 858 6200.

Alternatively, information can be left anonymously with Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
