1 min read

Christchurch Police have released the name of the man who died in a motor vehicle crash near Darfield yesterday.

He was Gordon Clifford Chapman, aged 76, of Takaka in Tasman District.

Mr Chapman was the driver of a car travelling north-west on Coaltrack Road, which collided with a four-wheel drive vehicle travelling south-west on Bealey Road, just after 11.45 yesterday.

Mr Chapman's wife, Carol, who was a passenger in the vehicle, remains in a serious condition in the intensive care unit at Christchurch Hospital.

The couple were on holiday from their home in Takaka.

The driver of the other vehicle was released from hospital yesterday after being treated for minor injuries.

The Police investigation into the crash is continuing, but Police confirm that initial enquiries suggest Mr Chapman's car has travelled through a controlled intersection into the path of the other vehicle.
