1 min read

Christchurch Police are investigating an aggravated robbery of a Mairehau liquor store, after a knife was presented at a store worker on Tuesday night.

Detective Sergeant Al Lester says a man entered the Warrington Liquor Centre at around 10.45pm on Tuesday (30 May) and took a bottle of bourbon from the shelves.

"The man went to leave the premises but was confronted by a male employee who was alone in the shop at the time," he says. "He then produced a knife and held it towards the employee.

"The employee has backed off and the offender left the shop."

Detective Sergeant Lester says another witness saw the man get into a car parked nearby on Barbadoes Street. The car was seen to drive towards Bealey Avenue.

The offender is described as a male Caucasian, in his late teens, approximately 162 to 168 cm (5ft 4in to 5ft 6in) tall, of slim build, with brown hair. He was reported to be wearing black jeans, a red bandana, and a red and black checked shirt over a white t-shirt.

"We would like to hear from anyone who has seen a man in the vicinity of the store around that time, or noticed any suspicious activity."
