Death of English tourist - name released

Police are now able to release the name of the 21 year old English Tourist who died in the Kawarau River after becoming trapped between rocks while riverboarding.

She is Emily Louise JORDAN, 21 years, of Worcester, England.

The incident happened about 2.15 pm when a group of tourists were river boarding down the Kawarau River near the Roaring Meg Power Station which is close to the Central Otago township of Cromwell.

The group were riverboarding with the adventure tourism company Mad Dog Riverboarding from Queenstown.

River guides taking the group struggled for about 20 minutes to free Emily and returned her to shore where CPR was immediately commenced. Emergency Services were called but they were unable to revive Emily.

Emily was travelling with a companion and our thoughts go out to their family and friends.

This tragic incident is now the subject of a Coroner's investigation and Police will be looking at all the circumstances that led to Emily's death.
