Truck convoy protest clears from Wellington - final update 10

1 min read

Three hundred protesting truck drivers have now cleared the Wellington CBD and general traffic has returned to normal.

Inspector Simon Perry, Wellington Police Area Emergency Response Manager, says the truckies had by 10.15am cleared Molesworth Street to head north out of the city or to resume their daily operations.

"We're very pleased with the cooperation we've had from everyone," Inspector Perry says. "Early advisories through the media and other emergency services and transport operators let everyone know in advance what to expect.

"There were some delays but overall commuters coped extremely well and we appreciate the response.

"We had close liaison with the truckies throughout the convoy and that helped limit the disruption."

He says roads were a lot busier than normal between 6am and 7am with people travelling early or making alternative arrangements.
