Operation missing woman

A body has been located in Westmorland however Christchurch Police are very cautious on any details as they have not identified the body yet.

Police investigating the disappearance of Kerry Leigh Downey located her red car in Neville Street, Barrington area, in the early hours of this morning. Ms Downey went missing around 7pm on Monday night in the Riccarton Road, Ilam Road vicinity.

Police are interested in any sightings of a vehicle of this make and model driving around Christchurch with the driver possibly acting erratically or strangely. The car was last seen in the vicinity of 281 Riccarton Road.

Early this morning police received a call from a member of the public walking in Westmorland who reported finding a female body.

"At this stage we are very cautious as we have not identified the body," says DSS Grant Wormald.

Ms Downey was driving her 2001 Suzuki Alto motor vehicle. This vehicle is coloured red and is a Hatchback model. The registration number for the vehicle is ABS824.
