Hamilton stabbing update

Hamilton Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward following a stabbing in a busy city street market on Saturday morning.

Detective Mark Watt of Hamilton CIB said a man was stabbed following an argument at the Frankton Markets about 9.15am.

"The fight happened on Commerce St outside the Junction Bar, in the middle of the road, and escalated with a man being stabbed."

Police are searching for a man they believe was involved in the argument and appealing for witnesses to come forward.

The man is described as a 39-year-old male Maori, of solid to fat build with long dark hair that goes down to his middle back.

The 30-year-old stabbing victim was taken to Waikato Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Operated on early Saturday evening the man was discharged from hospital yesterday.

Anyone with information on the stabbing or the identity of the offender is asked to contact Mr Watt at the Hamilton Police Station on 07 858 6200.
