Urgent appeal for public information

Lower Hutt Police are appealing to the public for information relating to the abduction of an 8-month old girl from Lower Hutt earlier today.

The baby was abducted at gunpoint while being pushed in its pushchair by it mother, accompanied by young cousins and their dog.

At the time the baby was abducted she was wearing a navy blue, one-piece, "stretch and grow" with a dark pink skivvy underneath. She also had a light pink hooded jacket with a distinctive hood with rabbits ears attached to it.

Police and the baby’s family are extremely concerned for her well being and urge any one with information which may be help see her returned safely returned to contact Lower Hutt police.

The child’s mother appeals to anyone with information to contact police.

"Baby K is an innocent little girl, she can’t speak, walk or even crawl. She needs regular feeding and to be kept warm.

"Please, just wrap her up warmly and deliver her to somewhere where there are people and she will be quickly found."

The abduction occurred at approximately 1150am this morning in St Aubyns Grove near the Hutt River bank.

Police are seeking information on sightings of a late model two tone silver and blue Mitsubishi (possibly a Sigma or Galant) registration number UL3802 or similar. The vehicle was last seen heading left into Woburn Road from St Aubyns Grove.

The offender has been described to police as a male, caucasian aged in his late 30s to early 40s, approximately 178 cm (5’8") tall and of slim build either balding or with close cropped graying hair.

He was wearing black jeans and a black jacket.
