Hamilton Police are investigating the links between an aggravated robbery of a taxi firm this morning and suspicious activity a short time earlier.

Constable Murray MacDonald said a taxi driver raised the alarm about 1.40am.

"He'd driven to a Ross Cres address to uplift a fare but the man said to wait, he had to grab something.

"The man disappeared in one direction when all of a sudden two men appeared from another, pointed a pistol through the window and demanded cash and the driver's cell phone."

Shaken, the driver was then told to go by the robbers and raised the alarm with Police.

A second taxi firm has reported to Police that one of their drivers had been called to the same address about 10 minutes earlier but became suspicious and drove off when he saw someone lingering in nearby bushes.
