1 min read

A 25 year old Hamilton man will appear in the Hamilton district court today charged with Sexual Violation, Excess Breath Alcohol and other charges.

The man was apprehended after crashing his car in Tawa Street in the early hours of this morning, after police had received a call from a young woman in the car.
Detective Sergeant Ross Patterson of the Hamilton CIB said that while police were at the scene they located the young woman in a distressed state.  Police established that she had been detained in the vehicle and sexually assaulted and sexually violated.

When the car had earlier been travelling on Tawa Street she pulled on the steering wheel and pulled on the hand brake, the subsequent crash allowed her to escape from the man.

“We are providing the victim with medical support and have engaged Victim Support to help her through this ordeal”, Patterson said.
The driver was taken to the Hamilton police station to be processed.
