Armed Incident - Parkway - Wainuiomata

Police were called to a Parkway address in Wainuiomata at about 1.50pm this afternoon after reports were received of men fighting.

When Police arrived they saw a large knife and a handgun inside the address.

Police withdrew and awaited further staff, during which time Police armed themselves and set up cordons in the area.

Two males were subsequently detained, during which time the house was searched and a metal imitation firearm was located.

Further enquiries have identified a family violence incident had occurred at the address prior to Police arrival. One party had left the address, and the family violence incident will be followed up on.

Police take all family violence incidents and any other incidents involving any weapon seriously and will respond to ensure the safety of victims and members of the public.

No members of the public were at risk and Police would like to thank the local schools for their assistance in ensuring the students remained safe within the school grounds.
