Arrest in Waikato homicide

 A senior Waikato Police officer is commending a team of investigators from the east of the district for progressing a murder inquiry to a point where a person is being put before the courts.

District Crime Manager, Detective Inspector Karl Thornton said an arrest was made in Whangamata yesterday in relation to the murder of 76-year-old British national, Ivan Peter KAPLUGGIN at an Achilles Ave property on 03 February.

"As a result of yesterday's arrest a 61-year-old Whangamata man will appear in the Hamilton District Court today charged with Mr KAPLUGGIN'S murder.

"Officers have spoken to Mr KAPLUGGIN'S family and expressed our condolences for their loss. The family have expressed their gratitude to our staff for being able to hold someone to account and have requested their privacy be respected."

Mr Thornton said Police would like to thank all the members of the public who assisted Police throughout their investigation.
