Police are currently at the scene of a serious crash in the Lower Buller Gorge on State Highway 6.
One person has been confirmed dead and two others have been taken to Greymouth hospital. A fourth person who was a passenger in one of the vehicles was uninjured.
The crash happened about 3.30pm on a bridge. The highway is currently closed and is not expected to reopen until about 9pm today.
Victim support is in place and a serious crash investigation is under way.
