At approximately 5.15pm this afternoon a fire began in Rowallan Road, west of Darfield.
Strong winds have caused the fire to spread through fields towards Homebush and Waireka Roads.
Fire and Police are in attendance. Road blocks are in place in the area and some houses have been evacuated.
Police ask that people do not travel west or south west of Darfield. If people reside south of Homebush Road, they should keep an eye on the situation and be prepared to evacuate if called upon by Police or Fire Service.
