Fleeing driver arrested and charged

1 min read

At 12.05pm today a Takapuna Community Constable who was performing a speed awareness around schools patrol near Takapuna Primary School saw a man on a motorbike driving 70k's per hour in a 50k zone, down Killarney Street in Takapuna.

The driver failed to stop when Police signalled for him to do so.  Because of the dangerous manner in which the man was driving and the risk to public safety, the Police Eagle Helicopter was used to observe the direction in which the man was travelling.

"The man abandoned his motorbike at Birkenhead Mall and was arrested a few minutes later" says Constable Bevan Dennison. "Drivers who fail to stop for Police put themselves and other innocent road users at risk, and again we remind people who find themselves in this situation about the importance of stopping for Police."

A 30 year-old man will appear in the North Shore District Court on Friday 16 August on charges of driving whilst disqualified, failing to stop for red and blue flashing lights and reckless driving.
